Profile: Anita Dhanke Anita Dhanke wakes at 4 AM each morning to feed her three children and the 16 orphans that she cares for.
In July of 2004 Mrs. Dhanke started the Emmanuel Orphanage in Rangbari, Kota located in the desolate poverty stricken area of northern India. Anita is a bright spot in an otherwise dark area. The stark concrete building that is the home and classroom to these children sits amidst the worst poverty in all of the world. Anita has nothing. Several years ago her husband died of leukemia and her daughter was forced to have her leg amputated. She gave her job to her daughter and with selfless abandon, she gave her life away to God - and took in these 16 children. She too has been diagnosed with leukemia but you can not even notice by the way she shuffles about comforting and teaching the children. It is hard to get photo of her without her beaming with joy. The children love her. They sit in perfect order and watch as she sketches out their English lesson. They clamor with delight as we hand them the new notebooks and sweaters that we have brought as gifts. For most of them, these are the first change of clothes they have seen in years.
They look at us with pure love. They do not realize the sacrifices that Anita makes each day to care for them and provide healthy meals, love and education. I feel inadequate as we drive away from this place. Our $100 in clothes and supplies was not enough, yet it was the answer to years of prayer for Anita. Provide Food, Shelter and Education for Anita's Children for just $400/per month. Please donate.
